# Bitcoin Coin Control and UTXO Management in Trezor

> Use Trezor Suite's coin control feature to manually select Bitcoin UTXOs, optimise transaction fees, and improve on-chain privacy when sending Bitcoin.

Coin control is an advanced Bitcoin feature that lets you choose exactly which individual coin inputs — known as UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Outputs) — are included when you build a transaction. Rather than letting Trezor Suite select inputs automatically, you decide which coins to spend, giving you precise control over both the cost and the privacy profile of each transaction.

## What Coin Control Is

Every time you receive Bitcoin, that incoming amount is recorded on the blockchain as a distinct UTXO tied to a specific address. When you later send Bitcoin, your wallet selects one or more of these UTXOs to fund the transaction. The automatic selection is convenient, but it can inadvertently link previously separate addresses — revealing information about your holdings to anyone analysing the blockchain.

Coin control lets you inspect your full UTXO set and hand-pick which outputs to spend, so you remain in full control of how your transaction history appears on-chain.

## Why Coin Control Matters

**Privacy:** Combining UTXOs from different addresses in a single transaction creates an on-chain link between those addresses. An observer can reasonably infer they belong to the same wallet. By spending UTXOs selectively, you minimise unnecessary address linkage.

**Fee optimisation:** Smaller UTXOs (sometimes called "dust") carry proportionally higher fees to spend. By identifying and consolidating dust during low-fee periods — or simply avoiding small inputs when fees are high — you can reduce the cost of future transactions.

**Change management:** Coin control gives you visibility into how much change a transaction will generate and which change address will receive it, helping you maintain a cleaner UTXO set over time.

## How to Enable Coin Control in Trezor Suite

Coin control is hidden by default because it is intended for experienced users. Enable it through Trezor Suite settings:

1. Open **Trezor Suite** and connect your Trezor device.
2. Click **Settings** in the bottom-left corner.
3. Navigate to the **Bitcoin** section (or **Experimental Features**, depending on your version).
4. Toggle **Coin Control** to enabled.

Once enabled, the coin control panel becomes available in the Send form for all Bitcoin accounts.

## Selecting UTXOs When Sending Bitcoin

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Your Bitcoin Account">
    In Trezor Suite, select the Bitcoin account from which you want to send funds.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Send and Open Coin Control">
    Click the **Send** button to open the send form. You will see a **Coin Control** section or button near the bottom of the form — click it to expand your UTXO list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review Your UTXOs">
    Trezor Suite displays each UTXO with its amount, the address it is associated with, and the number of confirmations it has received. Review the list to understand your available inputs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select the UTXOs to Spend">
    Check the boxes next to the specific UTXOs you want to include in this transaction. The total selected value and the resulting fee estimate update in real time as you make your selection. Ensure you select enough to cover the send amount plus the network fee.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete and Confirm the Transaction">
    Fill in the recipient address and amount as normal, then review all details on your Trezor device screen before confirming. The device will display the transaction inputs and outputs — verify them carefully before pressing confirm.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Coin control is an advanced feature intended for users who are familiar with how Bitcoin UTXOs and on-chain privacy work. Incorrect UTXO selection will not cause fund loss, but it can produce unintended privacy leaks or suboptimal fee structures. If you are new to Bitcoin, the automatic UTXO selection in Trezor Suite is safe and sufficient for everyday use.
